Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service Trail Planning

BLM designation of trails, Lake Pleasant area planning.
Arizona Trail Riders (ATR) and now AZOHVC have commented on the draft plans and documents for the last 5 years. The plan is now in the final public comments phase. These are the BLM areas bounded by Hwy 60 on the west, I17 on the East, Hwy 74 on the south and the Prescott national forest on the north.
Our job is showing where the trails are and how they are used in a positive way. To meet this goal AZOHVC is working on a set of maps in PDF format that you will be able to send in with a letter or email to the BLM to tell them where you ride and how you use the trails.
If you are a dirt biker for example, send in the "Dirt Biker PDF".
This is something new we are trying so more of you can both comment and show where you ride. We will send an email to AZOHVC clubs when the files are ready so that individual clubs can request the appropriate PDF maps for distribution..
We are also working with the adjacent Prescott National forest on connecting trails to the BLM system to help keep long distance trail loops open such as the route to Crown King.

Forest Service Planning
All the Arizona Forests will be required to have a map showing designated trail systems by 2010. They are currently going through public comment periods for us to tell them where we ride and what we want to keep in the system. This info will then go back to the planners. They will propose a trail map for final public comment.
We need you to attend the meetings in your areas and comment on what you ride.
If you have access to GPS track logs of your riding areas, please send them to Jeff Gursh marked as AZ trails. Indicate the area and trail designation, ie single track, Jeep or ATV; include how you use these trails.
Garmin MapSource MPS or GDB files are preferred.
Groups from AZOHVC are already at work on the Tonto Cave Creek, Mesa Cave Creek and Prescott Forest plans.
It's up to you to let the Forest Service know what you want! We can't help if you don't!
